Tuscany is rich in water, hot springs, rivers and sea.
Spas are present in most of the region, Thermal Spas with a fee, as those in Rapolano Terme, or free Hot Springs, like in Petriolo.
At about 20 km, the Siena-Grosseto road, direction Grosseto, there is an abundant source of sulphurous water, which flows from the hot springs at 42 ° C, and is free of charge. The pools of Petriolo are located along the banks of the river Farma, immersed in a landscape of breathtaking beauty of the lush and pristine forests just a short walk from the Natural Reserve of the Lower Merse.
Beautiful details and the remains of the ancient walls built by the Senese in 1404, which is the Baths of Petriolo an exceptional example of fortified walls. The baths were in fact very popular in the Middle Ages, but they were probably well known from the times of the ancient Romans.
Today, they are the free thermal pools closest to Siena, easily accessible and popular in the winter months.
Rapolano Terme is a beautiful village in the heart of Tuscany, within easy reach of Siena in about half an hour by car, located on the border between the Val di Chiana and Chianti, in the most famous touristic area of Tuscany: the "Crete Senesi".

All the Tuscan coast is a is very much appreciated tourist destination by everybody, young and old.
Le Scopaie’s distance from the sea is of 80 km only. The road to the sea is a journey in itself, a discovery of many treasures. In fact you will pass the very famous Abbey of San Galgano, to arrive in about 1 hour drive through the woods of the Metalliferous Hills, to the beach of 10 km between Follonica and Punta Ala, one of the most beautiful spots in Tuscany.
If you want to travel a little more, you can go to Alberese, the Uccellina Regional Park and Natural Reserve Park of the Maremma, at about 1 hour and a half drive towards Grosseto-Rome. The Maremma is a wonderful natural oasis, located on the coastline of the province of Grosseto and is enclosed in the area delimited from the village of Alberese in the North and in the South from the village of Talamone. You can reach the sea by car, passing through an ancient pine forest where they breed buffalos and Maremmano horses. Here you can swim and sunbathe and relax in a beautiful and pristine natural environment. In summer visitor’s passage is regulated and you must pay an entrance fee.
If you do not want to go too far but you want to cool down and enjoy the sun and shade,
you can take a refreshing bath in the river Merse, near the town of Brenna, about 3 km. from Rosia on the road to Siena. Brenna is a small village on the banks of the river Merse. Near Brenna there are coves on the river for swimming and sunbathing.
The Merse river flows in the provinces of Siena and Grosseto.
The Val di Merse is the area south of Siena and includes the basin of the river Merse and its tributary river: the Farma.
Today the Val di Merse is almost entirely a natural reserve, perfect for a relaxing holiday in the beautiful nature of Tuscany.
