Places of historic and artistic interest
We suggest a few of the most famous and interesting ones, even though all the towns and villages of the area are worth a visit:
Casole d'Elsa, Pievescola, Colle Val d'Elsa, Sovicille, Torri, Stigliano.

Florence
Approximately 70 km from Le Scopaie. One of the most extraordinary cities in the world. Even a month wouldn't be enough to visit all the museums and to see all the works of art which can be found here.

Siena, (20 Km. from Le Scopaie) at the centre is the Piazza del Campo, one of the biggest and most beautiful medieval squares in Europe. The ancient rivalry between clans is relived every year in July and August during the Palio. The Cathedral combines the roman and gothic styles in the sculptures, paintings and architectural forms. The Pinacoteca Nazionale contains a collection by artists of the Senese School.

S. Gimignano, about 30 Km. from here. A small town located on a lovely hill, with XII and XIII century towers. The Palazzo del Popolo (14th century) houses the Civic Museum, while the Collegiata, the largest church in S. Gimignano, contains some of the best known frescoes of the Renaissance, including some by Ghirlandaio.

Monteriggioni, 10 Km. beyond Siena in the direction of Florence, a small jewel surrounded by medieval walls.

Volterra, the Cathedral with its wooden statues, is one of the oldest in Europe.

S. Galgano, about 15 Km. in the direction of Follonica, is a medieval abbey, no longer having its roof, a fascinating treasure to visit.
